Fred Mitchell's Obituary
Frederick Elbridge Mitchell was born January 1, 1917 in rural Beaver County, Oklahoma to Clara Burr and Herndon C. Mitchell. He developed a work ethic as he grew up and graduated from Beaver High School in 1935. In 1938 he was married to Dorothy Shively. Fred farmed in partnership with his father and in 1940 Fred and Dorothy moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas. Two sons were born, Glenn in 1944 and Jerry in 1945. Fred and Dorothy also lovingly cared for a niece, Evelyn, whom they considered a daughter. Besides owning a dairy and beef cattle operation, Fred was also employed for five years in the construction of the Bull Shoals Dam on the White River. In 1960 they moved to Mansfield, Missouri and Fred later bought a backhoe and gravel business, which he managed until his retirement in 1983. Fred was a devoted Christian and faithfully attended the Church of the Nazarene until his health failed. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and his son, Jerry. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; a son, Glenn, and his wife, Deborah, of Victoria, Texas; a niece, Evelyn Bartigis, and her husband, Steve, of New Bern, North Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Mitchell, of Overland Park, Kansas; a brother, Ben Mitchell, of Stockton, California; ten grandchildren, Tammi Wilder, and her husband, Lee, of Nixa, Missouri, Gregg Mitchell, of Dallas, Texas, Mindee Bacon, and her husband, Doug, of Nixa, Missouri, Justin Mitchell, and his wife, Hope, of Lake Jackson, Texas, Seth Mitchell, and his wife, Melissa, of Waco, Texas, Kendall Mitchell, and his wife, Heather, of Milton, Iowa, Kasey Mitchell, and his wife, Anna, of Brazil, Kris Mitchell, and his wife, Arla, Olathe, Kansas, Levi Parker, of Washington D.C., and Josh Parker, of South Korea; eleven great grandchildren, Aimee Huse, and her husband, Adam, Somserae Wilder, Connor, Shelby, and Garrett Bacon, Alex, Bailey, Cameron, Zane, Emma, and Peter Mitchell; a great-great grandson, Kollin Huse; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. God saw fit to take Fred to Heaven on Easter Sunday Morning at 8:30, and although our hearts are saddened by our loss, we rejoice with Fred as he greets his son, his parents, and best of all his precious Savior. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in the Mansfield Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in the Mansfield Cemetery.
