She departed this life on October 18, 2006, in her home in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, nine months, and five days. She was united in marriage to Jackie Ray Claxton on August 23, 1950, and to this union one son was born. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Marie Winfrey, Mabel Beard and Betty Shockley. Freda is survived by her husband, Jack, of the home; a son, Larry, and his wife, Patti, of Moore, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Matthew Claxton, and his wife, Heather, and Cari Claxton, all of Moore, Oklahoma; a sister, Catherine Hawkins, and her husband, Don, of Lebanon, Missouri; and a brother, James Winfrey, and his wife, Katie, of Independence, Missouri; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. They followed Jack’s work until they retired and moved back to Missouri in 1989. Freda had made her profession of faith, and followed the Baptist faith throughout the years. She and Jack had attended the New Hope Baptist church at Russ as long as her health permitted. In her spare time, she loved to do needlework and also spent many enjoyable hours watching the birds. Her life was centered around her family, and she took pride in creating a warm inviting home for them. Freda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends.
