Freda L Conn (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Freda Louise Conn, daughter of Edgar and Clemma Webb Long, was born May 25, 1923, near Grovespring, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, October 8, 2014, in Mercy Jefferson Hospital, in Festus, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, four months, and thirteen days.
Early in her life she was united in marriage to James Waldo Conn, and to this union one son was born.
She was preceded in death her parents; her husband, Waldo, on March 10, 1979; three brothers, Mitchell, Clifford, and Ernest Long; and a special friend, Lee Reihl.
Freda is survived by a son, James Waldo Conn, Jr., and his wife, Judy, of St. Louis, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Jane Conn, of Arnold, Missouri; two grandsons, Larry Conn, and his wife, Nancy, of House Springs, Missouri, and David Conn, and his wife, Kelly, of Dittmer, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Joseph Conn, Danielle Nicole Conn-Berg, and her husband, Brian, and Justin David Conn; a great-great-grandchild, Joselynn Berg; three sisters, June Long Perkins, Ila Long Weaver, both of Springfield, Missouri, and Betty Lou Long Clay, and her husband, Scott, of Austin, Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Grovespring community and graduated from Grovespring High School. She then moved to Lebanon, where she began a career with United Telephone Company on April 21, 1952. She served as an operator, service assistant and service center representative during her thirty-six year career and finished her last few years in the Rolla, Missouri office. She was a member of the Ozark Telephone Pioneers. Later in her life, Freda moved to Dittmer, Missouri, to be closer to her family.
Freda professed her faith in Christ and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Rolla, Missouri, having transferred her membership from the First Baptist Church of Lebanon. She was very involved in the senior group at her church.
She was a charter member of the Rolla Civic Center, and was a member of the Golden Aires Gospel Singers. She liked doing water aerobics and staying as active as possible. She and Lee enjoyed traveling and became “snowbirds”, making trips to warmer climates in Texas and Florida during the winter months. Her family was very important to her and she was especially proud of her grandsons and great-grandchildren.
Freda was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her ninety-one years.
