Frederick "Fred" Zinnert's Obituary
Frederick “Fred” M. Zinnert, son of Fritz L. and Jessie Leona Maggart Zinnert, was born August 14, 1921 in Kahoka, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Culpepper Place in Chesterfield Village, Springfield, Missouri at the age of ninety years, four months, and eighteen days.
On May 11, 1945, in Canton, Missouri, Fred was united in marriage to Dorothy Rose Black and to this union two children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Tom; and his brother, Robert.
Fred is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; daughter, Connie Young and husband Tom, of Alton, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Jan Zinnert of Nixa, Missouri; his grandchildren, Heidi Zinnert and friend David Talik, of Nixa, Missouri, Ryan Zinnert and wife Dawndy of Springdale, Arkansas, Hope Goffeney and husband Joe of Ozark, Missouri, and Eddie Young of West Plains, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Riley and Dawson Zinnert, Noah Goffeney, Slade Young, and a little Goffeney girl on the way, as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Fred spent his younger years in Kahoka and was a graduate of Kahoka High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1942 and spent thirty-nine months proudly serving his country during World War II.
Fred returned to Kahoka after the war and worked as a farmer for a number of years. He later left the farming industry and entered the banking business. Fred served in many capacities during his banking career, and eventually retired after twenty-one years in the business.
He had professed his faith in Jesus Christ early on in his life, and was a member of the Hartville United Methodist Church.
Fred was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Kahoka, Missouri as well as the Ararat Shrine Temple in Kansas City, Missouri.
Fred had an adventurous spirit. He enjoyed flying his plane and seeing all the country had to offer while traveling with Dorothy in their R.V. He had a green thumb, and was known for his abundant gardens and his manicured lawns.
Fred was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his long life and his many accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends.
Funeral services for Fred M. Zinnert will be held at 2:00 pm Monday afternoon February 6, 2012 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Steele Memorial Cemetery, Hartville, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time Monday, in the Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wright County Children's Home, and can be left at the funeral home.
