G.A. Dedmon's Obituary
Garried Austin Dedmon, son of Austin and Edith(Patterson)Dedmon was born April 13, 1922 in Wright County, Missouri and departed this life on May 8, 2009 in Rocky Ridge Manor, Mansfield, Missouri at the age of eighty-seven years and twenty-five days.
On August 23, 1941 G.A. was united in marriage to Virginia Matney and to this union three children were born. Virginia preceded him in death on April 6, 2007 after sixty-five years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Jill Clouse; two brothers, Bill Dedmon and Gaylen Dedmon; and one sister, Lois Owens.
He is survived by his children, Sue Clouse and husband Roy of Mansfield, Missouri, Gary “Bud” Dedmon of Mansfield, Missouri and Beth Barker and husband Keith of Forsyth, Missouri; ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Dedmon and wife Nelda of Hartville, Missouri and Jack Dedmon and wife Frances of Mansfield, Missouri; a sister, Kay Patterson of Marshfield, Missouri; an aunt, Romaine Endsley from the State of Texas; sister-in-law, Joan Dedmon of Ava, Missouri; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
G.A. retired in 1990 from the USDA office in Hartville where he was the ASCS director for Wright County. He was a lifelong farmer, fisherman and hunter. An Army veteran, he proudly served his country in the South Pacific during WWII from 1944 thru 1946. He was with Company G in the 38th Infantry, Cyclone Division, “Avengers of Bataan.”
He was a lifetime member of the Clarence King Post #128 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, a fifty-five year member of Mansfield Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. where he served as Worshipful Master in 1975, member of York Rite in Mtn. Grove and Scottish Rite, Valley of Joplin; and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple in Springfield, Missouri where he was a member of the “Hospital Dad’s Unit”. He was a charter member and former National President of the Bluetick Breeders Association and was also a member of the Wright County Deputy Sheriffs mounted patrol.
G.A. had recently professed his acceptance of the Lord as his Savior and found complete inner peace of going to heaven and joining his family and friends. We celebrate his life and will remember the wonderful memories of this great man.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in Holman-Howe Chapel, in Mansfield, Missouri with burial in Steele Memorial Cemetery in Hartville, Missouri. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday in the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Community Hospice or Missouri Masonic Home and may be made through Holman-Howe Funeral Home P.O. Box 199, Mansfield, Missouri 65704.
