Gary Lee Haney (Seymour)'s Obituary
Gary L Haney was born on January 2, 1954 to Charles and Elizabeth Haney in Independence Missouri.
He graduated from Seymour High School class of 1972 as valedictorian. Gary went on to attend and graduate from Missouri State University in 1977. While at school he married his high school sweetheart Tammy Christopher in December 1975 and went on to have two sons, Matthew and Joshua.
Always the entrepreneur, Gary had a gift of remembering numbers and understanding business. He built a company of 10 insurance offices called United Insurance Group. A talented tax planner and advisor, he also owned Haney Tax and Accounting which he started in 1989.
Gary’s other passions were traveling and spending time with family. He and Tammy had visited 47 states in their RVs, 7 European countries, as well as Israel and Jordan. There was an annual fishing trip to Lake of the Woods in Canada with friends. Colorado in the fall was his favorite trip because he loved to photograph elk in Rocky Mountain National Park. In 2018, he also fulfilled his life-long dream of driving his RV to Alaska for three months and had plans to return in the future.
The pride and joy of his life were his five grandchildren: Jailyn, Hudson, Haidyn, Weston and Finton. There was nothing he enjoyed more that spending time with them riding the Rhino around the farm, playing games and watching movies. Equally important as family was his faith. Gary loved Jesus and served Him faithfully through the years as youth leader, Sunday School teacher, Music Director, and was recently involved as an area coordinator for Operation Christmas Child. It is a tremendous comfort to the family to know he is home.
Gary was preceded in death by his father Charles Haney as well as his mother and father-in-law Don and Pat Christopher.
Gary is survived by his wife Tammy and his sons Matthew, and Joshua and his wife, Gina as well as his five grandchildren and his mother, Elizabeth Haney. He was also survived by his brothers: Dan Haney and wife Cindy and Ken Haney and his wife, Debby. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Dawn Christopher Moritz and husband Steve, and brother-in-law, Bob Christopher and wife, Maureen as well as many well-loved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse online at samaritanspurse.org. Cards and donations can also be sent to PO Box 515, Seymour, MO 65746.
