Gary Howerton (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Gary Howerton, age seventy-six of Lebanon, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished memories. Born on July 10, 1949, in Conway, Missouri to Ira and Edith Howerton (Anglen), Gary grew up to be a dedicated family man and a hard worker. He retired in 2013 from Detroit Tool Metal Products.
On August 25, 1967, Gary married the love of his life, Brenda Louise Christy. They were married fifty-eight years, ten months and six days, building a beautiful life and a large, loving family. Gary was an avid reader who especially enjoyed Westerns. He loved watching classic TV shows with his wife and took great pleasure in taking long drives through the countryside by her side. He also enjoyed deer hunting with Dean. Above all, Gary loved spending quality time with his family.
Gary is survived by his wife, Brenda; his four children, Melissa Madler of North Carolina, Tammy Heinzel of Marshfield, Missouri (and husband Chris), Christy Slattery of Marshfield, Missouri (and husband Chris), and Dean Howerton of Lebanon, Missouri (and wife Carrie). He also leaves behind his beloved pet, Eeyore.
His memory will be cherished by his nine grandchildren: Kayla, Braedon, and Tyler (children of Melissa); Shelby and Skylar (children of Tammy); Aurora and Shiann (children of Christy); and Anna and Billy (children of Dean). He is also survived by his five great-grandchildren: Piper, Thomas, Jonah, Micah, and Miles; one brother, Wayne Howerton (Tosha) of Independence, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Edith Howerton; three sisters; and four brothers.
