Gary Nathaniel Philpott's Obituary
Gary Nathaniel Philpott, son of Lemuel Anthel and Julia Agnes (Bryant) Philpott, was born April 20, 1939, in the Sarvis Point community, near Seymour, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, January 15, 2007, in his home, in Seymour, Missouri, surrounded by his loved ones, at the age of sixty-seven years, eight months, and twenty-five days. On August 27, 1965 he was united in marriage to Sharon Elizabeth Snelson and to this union two daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Wayne Philpott; his grandparents, N.A. and Merena Philpott; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Johnson, and James King. Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; two daughters, Rhonda Skidmore, and her husband, Gary, and Shelly Harris, and her husband, Bobby, all of Seymour, Missouri; five grandchildren, Tyler and LeAnn Skidmore, Kayla, Kelsey Jo, and Kaleb Harris; two sisters, Sharon Johnson, of Springfield, Missouri, and Merena King, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two nieces, Shelly Johnson and Diana Alderman and her husband, Richard; four nephews, Mike Johnson, James, Lee, and Kevin King; the Snelson extended family; six sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was born and raised in the Sarvis Point community and attended Ragsdale Grade School. He graduated from Seymour High School in the Class of 1957 and in 1963 he met his future wife, Sharon. Soon after they were married, they made their home in the Seymour community and lovingly raised their family. Throughout his life, he worked as a mechanic and specialized in farm equipment repair. Gary had made his profession of faith in Christ and was baptized, and was a member of the Seymour Nazarene Church. In his spare time he also enjoyed working on his farm, but what brought him most joy was being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the memories he has created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Syemour. Burial will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri. Memorials to the Seymour YMCA Aquatic Center or the Nazarene Building Fund may be made through the funeral home.
