Gene Snellings' Obituary
Elda Eugene Snellings, son of Elda Doom and Dollie Shepherd Snellings, was born March 13, 1942, in Springfield, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, March 6, 2006, in his home, in Montreal, Missouri, at the age of sixty-three years, eleven months, and twenty-one days. He was preceded in death by his mother; three sons, Travis, Eric, and Stacy Snellings; and a brother, Jerl Snellings. Gene is survived by his wife, Helen Audria (Anthony) Snellings, of the home; his children, Bobbi Jo Randall, and her husband, Brandon, of Montreal, Missouri, Jerri Dawn Wilson, and her husband, Daryl, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, Toni Lewis, and her husband, Randy, of Lebanon, Missouri, B. J. Randle and his wife, Monica, of Clinton, Missouri, and Kerri Adkins and her husband, Danny, of Richmond, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his father, Elda Snellings, of Montreal, Missouri; a special friend, Mike Claiborn, of Montreal, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was raised in the Montreal community and attended Montreal Grade School. He graduated from Camdenton High School, and then attended college for two years. For most of his life he made his home on his farm in the Montreal area where he was a custom cutter and welder, a farmer, beef producer, and a former hog farmer. He loved to build and create items through welding, and had built a tractor called the “Bonebreaker”. He had also built a multi-purpose machine called the “Project”, two small tractors for his grandchildren, welding trailers and hay trailers, gates, and a multitude of other items like cattle feeders and hay feeders. Gene received Christ at a young age, and was baptized by faith. He was a member of the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, loved his animals, and was very proud of his steer “Pride”. Through the years he had received several awards such as Farm Family of the Year, Laclede County Fair Sponsor Best of Show, an award of merit from the Goodyear Company, and a Missouri Conservation Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Resource Conservation. Several articles had been published on his work and on him in the Missouri Ruralist, the local newspapers, and the Farm Show and Farm Journal. He loved the land always with an intent to leave it better than he found it. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and son, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2006, in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funera Home, Camdenton. Burial will be in the Lebanon City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri.
