George Robert Akins (Buffalo)'s Obituary
George Robert “Bob” Akins, son of the late John Matison and Fannie Mae (Ballard) Akins, was born on March 21, 1927 in Cliquot, MO and departed this life on October 11, 2025 in Bolivar, MO. At the time of his passing he was 98 years, six months, and 20 days of age. Bob was raised in Nehawka, NE where he attended school. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his Country during World War II. He was a life-long member of the Nehawka American Legion Post. He was united in marriage to Ruth Doris Christiansen on March 31, 1948, ten days after his 21st birthday. They made their home in Nehawka and were blessed with five children. Bob worked road and bridge construction for most of his life, including the Truman Dam after moving to Missouri in 1970. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in the 1960’s during a Billy Graham crusade in Omaha, NE. He enjoyed spending time with family, reading, gardening, and working jigsaw puzzles with his beloved wife during the winter months. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, two daughters-in-law, Kathy (Robert) and Racheal (Jeff); granddaughter, Stormie Kirksey; infant grandson, Stephen Toth; and two infant great-granddaughters, Emily Dickensen and Brykn Miller. He is survived by his wife Ruth, who was his love, best friend, and companion for 77 years, six months, and ten days; his children, Robert, Elaine Toth (Frank), Chuck (Teri), Pat Glass (Henry), and Jeff (Crystal); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, with blessings of more in the coming spring. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home with Bro. Brad Prater and Bro. Richard Prater officiating. Escorts will be Doug Toth, Brian Akins, Jeffrey Akins, Jeremie Akins, Matison Akins, and Jaxin Akins. Interment will be in the Maple Lawn Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo.
