George G. Stigall's Obituary
George Gene Stigall arrived in Wright County, Missouri on December 18, 1928. He was the second of four sons born to Ida Mae (Young) and Carl Edward Stigall. He left Missouri for a heavenly home on November 26, 2007. He was 78 years, 11 months, and 8 days. George met, immediately fell in love and married Dollie Velora Davis on August 2, 1950. He and his “Baby Doll” celebrated 57 plus years of marriage and their union produced Brenda Kay (Brennie), Debora Jo (Debbie Do), and Gary Wayne (Punk). George loved life, enjoyed meeting people and if he met you once, he remembered you and details about you or your family at your next meeting (no matter how long since he had seen you). Doll would tell him that he would rather “talk than eat when he was hungry.” This trait of enjoying people served him well in his final job as a Wal-Mart greeter. (He made 2 commercials representing Wal-Mart store #88 in the early 90’s). George also loved traveling and trading. He lived in California much of his life, once even trading his home in the San Joaquin Valley (California) for a farm in Falcon, Missouri. He thought he knew every “Whiting Brothers” gas station between California and Missouri (and he probably did), in other words, he was a fan of “Route 66” before the rest of the world caught on! Up until his death, he was still trying to work on a trade, even offering his son-in-law “some boot” if he would trade houses. Again, this would cause Doll to say, “George, you would rather trade than eat when you are hungry.” But, all in all, this “talking and trading” never quenched his love for “brown beans and fried potatoes.” He was always a good provider for his family and over the years worked at numerous jobs. In addition to his Wal-Mart career, some of his other jobs included working for Sho-Me Power Electric Company, owning his own new and used furniture store in Tulare, California, and doing custom bush hogging in Missouri. George’s parents preceded him in death, along with his brothers, Unice Carl and Randall Paul (Dempsey). He is survived by his wife, Dollie or “Mama” of the home, his children, Brenda Morgan and her husband, Todd, of Mansfield, Missouri, Debbie Peterson and her husband, Jimmy, of Ridgecrest, California, and Pastor Gary W. Stigall, and his wife, Lisa, of Ava, Missouri. He leaves 7 grandchildren, Jeff (Tara) and Michael (Samantha) Morgan, Brandy Peterson Dobson (Morgyn), JJ (Vickie) and Justin (Cassie) Peterson, and Matt and Meshali Stigall; 11 great-grandchildren, Joey, Jacob, Zach, Hayle, Cayleb, Jesse, Wyatt, Dylan, Jeremiah, Solomon and Grace; and one great-great-grandson, Baby Joey; his brother, Art and wife, Shirley, of Hartville, Missouri; many cousins, nieces, nephews and more friends than can be imagined! Since 1999 George suffered many health problems with dignity and grace. He was a model patient, always the favorite patient of any hospital staff fortunate enough to care for him. He was truly an inspiration to anyone that came in contact with him. Besides being a tower of strength to his family, our husband, dad, daddy, grandpa, papaw leaves a “good name.” A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches and loving favor, rather than silver and gold. Proverbs 22:1. George G. Stigall left us with memories and love that money can’t buy and time can’t erase. He’s now having the time of his live, spending eternity “talking” to both old and new acquaintances in his new heavenly home!!!!! Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2007, in the Ava Assembly of God Church, Ava, Missouri. Burial will be in the Thomas Cemetery, Norwood. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri. Memorials may be made through the funeral home. Return to top
