George Hawkins' Obituary
George Harold Hawkins, son of Avan and Lydia Goans Hawkins, was born July 27, 1924, in Tekamah, Nebraska. He departed this life Wednesday, September 24, 2008, in Christian Health Care North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, one month, and twenty-seven days. On March 28, 1948, he was united in marriage to Ruby Lorene O’Quinn, and together they shared the last sixty years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Faydra Rounds, and Faye Thacker. George is survived by his loving wife, Ruby, of the home; a brother, Ezra Hawkins, of Lebanon, Missouri; a sister, Flo Grisamore, of Fort Collins, Colorado; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was born and raised in Nebraska, and then moved with his family to Missouri in 1945. After he and Ruby were married, they made their home on their farm near Oakland, Missouri. For most of his life he engaged in raising dairy and beef cattle. In 2000, he and Ruby sold the farm and moved into Lebanon, where they made their retirement home. George made his profession of faith in Christ at the age of twenty-one and was an active member of the Oakland United Methodist Church for many years. He served on the church Board of Trustees for a number of years, and remained involved in the church for as long as his health allowed. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where he liked caring for his cattle, horses, and dogs. George was a loving family man, a dedicated and hardworking farmer, and a kind and caring Christian neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday September 26, 2008 at the Mt. Rose Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Memorial park. No formal visitation but friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience under the direction of Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri.A memorial has been established to the National Kidney Foundation.
