George Littlewood's Obituary
George Arthur Littlewood, son of James Arthur and Georgia Jeanette (Felton) Littlewood, was born August 23, 1927 in Fowler, Colorado. He departed this life Monday, September 10, 2007, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, and seventeen days. On June 30, 1949 he was united in marriage to Pauline Ella Sumpter and to this union one son and two daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his parents. George is survived by his loving wife, Polly, of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Sincliar, and her husband Larry, of Rosharon, Texas, and Georgia Lee McCloy, and her husband, Bill, of Licking, Missouri; a son, George Robert “Bud” Littlewood, and his wife, Traci, of Hartville, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Mindi Owens, and her husband, Aaron, Cody McCloy, Otey McCloy, and his wife, Kathy, Ben McCoy, and his wife, Brandy, James, David, and Amanda Littlewood, and Jake Sincliar; seven great-grandchildren, Kayla, Paxton, Tessa, Chrislyn, and Alissa Owens, Cooper McCloy and Cole McCloy; a sister, Velma Leggett, of Fowler, Colorado; a brother, Bob Littlewood, and his wife, Linda, of Larmie, Wyoming; a brother-in-law, Frank Sumpter, and his wife, Linda, of Kim, Colorado; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as host of other relatives and many friends. He was born and raised in Fowler, Colorado, where he worked for area ranchers as a cowboy. Then in 1945 he entered the United States Navy and served his country faithfully until being honorably discharged in 1946. He then returned to ranching in Colorado, after he met and married Polly they moved to a ranch at Villegreen, Colorado for a short time and then moved to Lakin, Kansas for twelve years. They later went back to Colorado until making their home in Hartville in 1979. George had made his profession of faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Little Creek Baptist Church, where he was a longtime Deacon and served as a Sunday school teacher. He was also a board member of Camp Salvation near Monument Lake, Colorado before moving to Missouri. He was a very kind and giving person, always witnessing and trying to help someone in need. He cared very deeply for his family and loved spending time with them. He loved working on the ranch, caring for the cattle, and his fish pond for the grandchildren. He enjoyed cattle, horses and being a cowboy and also liked trapping in his younger years. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2007, in the Little Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be Little Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri. Memorials to the Wright County Children's Home may be made through the funeral home.
