George Llewellyn (Lebanon)'s Obituary
George Elza Llewellyn, son of Glen E. and Ruby C. Vestal Llewellyn, was born December 8, 1939, in Moberly, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, December 23, 2010, in his home, near Falcon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-one years, and fifteen days.
On December 8, 1962, he was united in marriage to Lorraine F. Alvord, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Norman Glen Llewellyn.
George is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Lorraine, of the home; a daughter, Lorri Walker, of Newburgh, Indiana; five grandchildren, Jovanna, Toby, Crystal, Justin, and Amy; eight great-grandchildren, Brook, Rain, Jordan, Tiler, Kira, Kylee, Penny, and Evan; a sister, Beverly Ann Myers, and her husband, Bennie Joe, of St. Charles, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in St. Charles,, Missouri, and graduated from St. Charles High School. He then joined the United States Navy in 1957, and served his country faithfully for twenty-one years, retiring in 1978. During his many tours of duty, he was stationed in various places overseas and during the Vietnam Conflict. He then moved to Missouri where he established a farm. He worked for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, for eleven years, and for the Sperry Corporation in 1990. He took a position in the Saudi Royal Navy and was stationed in Saudi Arabia for seven and one half years. When he and Lorraine finally decided to settle down to one place in the United States, they made their home on their farm near Falcon, Missouri. Throughout his retirement years, George worked at numerous jobs doing maintenance and appliance repair, and worked for the Detroit Tool Company for a time.
He was very crafty and did woodworking projects and handyman jobs. He also was a skilled mechanic. He delighted in his family and had very high expectations for all those he loved.
George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated and patriotic Navy man, a hard worker, and a good friend.
