George Loveland's Obituary
George K. Loveland Sr., age 95, of Seymour, died May 2, 2011 in his home of natural causes.
George was born November 5, 1915 near Rogersville, MO. He was the third of 14 children born to Joel C. Loveland and Addie (Rupert) Loveland. George grew up on farms in the Rogersville area and, as a teenager, worked from daylight to dark for $1.00 a day to help support the family. He later worked for his older brother at the Ford dealership in Seymour. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Beulah Blankenship, who worked at the White Dept. Store during the same period. After dating several years, George and Beulah were married July 5, 1942 at the Baptist parsonage in Seymour.
While working at the Chevrolet dealership in Rogersville, George was among one of the first, if not the first, groups of men from Webster County to be drafted for World War II. His knowledge of vehicles led to his rapid advance to Motor Sergeant. He served in Europe and was in the Battle of the Bulge.
After WWII, George and Beulah purchased what later was named Loveland Standard Service in Seymour. Together they made sure that all of their customers received their money’s worth of products and especially superior service. After long hours at the station, George loved to work on his farm on the east edge of Seymour. At one time he raised some fine registered Angus cattle. George and Beulah sold the station in 1969, but George did not retire. He worked at a local bank for more than twenty years before retiring at the age of 75. When time permitted, he had two sons and others to help and still cared for part of the farm. George was a good husband and father and was always willing to help a neighbor, relative or friend in need. His early years of hard work did not make him shy away from hard work later in life. In his later years, with the help of his brother-in-law and true friend Wayne Barker, he still kept the land on his farm manicured. It is needless to say that he was a good steward of the land. He continued to do most things for himself until his health would no longer permit.
George is survived by two sons, George K. Loveland, Jr. and wife Linda of Springfield, and Dr. Richard D. Loveland, DO and companion Kathy L. Miller of West Plains; six grandchildren: Beth, Rebecca, Joel (and wife Rosanna), Cameron, Alyssa and Ally; two great-grandsons and one adopted great-grandson; one brother and three sisters. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah, three brothers, six sisters and an infant grandson.
The family would like to give special thanks to Ethel Strickland and those who assisted her in Dad’s compassionate and dedicated care over the last few years. I
