George E. Roosa (Lebanon)'s Obituary
George Elliott Roosa, son of Jerald E. and Margaret D. Peck Roosa, was born January 4, 1949, in Artesia, California. He departed this life Monday, September 2, 2013, in his sister’s home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age sixty-four years, seven months, and twenty-eight days.
On July 28, 1990, he was united in marriage to Judith Ann “Judy”, and they shared twenty-two years before her passing on October 25, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his mother; his wife, Judy, on October 25, 2012; his step-father, Byron Bullock; a brother, David E. Roosa; and a nephew, D. J. Roosa.
George is survived by a daughter, Joanna Roosa, of Riverside, California; his father, Jerald Roosa, and his wife, Suzanna, of Lebanon, Missouri; three sisters, Melody Wright, Delores Aldridge, and her husband, Joseph, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Lita Osborne, and her husband, Cedric, of Waynesville, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in California, and graduated from Charter Oak High School. He entered the military as a young man, and served his country faithfully in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. While serving in the Navy, he did lightweight boxing. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, George returned to California where he worked as a forklift operator for the Solo Company for several years. In 1995, he and Judy moved to Lebanon, Missouri, and George was employed by Independent Stave Company for several years.
George was a member of the American Legion for a number of years. He liked being outdoors and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He had a love for animals, raised rabbits and often took in stray animals in the neighborhood. He also liked playing video games, and was a supporter of the Wounded Warriors Project. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed being with his sisters and nieces and nephews.
George was a loving father, son, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a hard worker, and a true patriotic citizen and friend.
