Gerry Callahan (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Geralean, “Gerry” Callahan was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 4, 2018 at Neighborhood’s at Quail Creek, Springfield, MO following a prolonged battle of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Gerry was born June 6, 1932 to Alex and Gladys Reid in Poplar Bluff, MO. She was the middle of 3 daughters.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Lee Callahan who resides at the VA Home in Mt Vernon, MO. She is also survived by a sister Ellie Winters and husband Cecil; her son, Robert P. Callahan and wife Donna; daughter Brenda and husband Dennis Owens; grandchildren Heather Stonestreet, and husband Michael; Esther Munch and husband Aaron; Lance Callahan and wife Hillary; and Zachary Owens and wife Amanda. She was blessed with four great grandchildren; Katherine Stonestreet, Sophia Owens, Frances Munch and Max Owens. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survived her. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Meg Camden and husband Jerry Bob.
She was raised by her parents in Poplar Bluff, MO, attended Poplar Bluff schools and graduated high school from Poplar Bluff in 1951. It was in high school that she met and fell in love with her precious husband. They married on September 8, 1951 and began a priceless love story of 66 years.
Although Gerry was enjoying working as a Bell Telephone operator, she quickly became a full- time homemaker with the birth of their son. This devotion to family never wavered as she loved and nurtured their two children while Robert served his country as a career Army man.
Characterized with her love for family and firm belief in God. Until recent years she was an active member at 1st Baptist Church Bolivar, MO. Along with ministering to her family, valuing church activities, she enjoyed playing church hymns on her piano, baking pies, gardening and caring for family pets.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk to End Alzheimer’s (Team Gerry Callahan).
