Gilbert Edwin Hay's Obituary
Gilbert Edwin Hay, son of Elmer “Whitey” and Mary Louise Gorman Hay, was born June 11, 1934, in Gillespie, Illinois. He departed this life, Thursday, March 8, 2007, in his home in Camdenton at the age of seventy-two years, eight months and twenty-five days. On August 18, 1956, in St. Margaret Catholic Church, St. Louis, he was united in marriage to Deloris Rose Waltemath. To this union two daughters and three sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Lauren Hay. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty years, Deloris; two daughters, Patricia L. Hay, of De Soto, Missouri and Ruth Ann Hay, of Worden, Illinois; three sons, Kenneth M. Hay and his wife, Deborah, and Steven P. Hay and his wife, Mary, all of Granite City, Illinois and W. Sean Hay and his wife, Courtney, of Collinsville, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Hay and his wife, Virginia, of Donnellson, Illinois; a sister, Kathryn Walker, of Thorndale, Pennsylvania; and a host of other relatives and friends. Gil was raised in the Wilsonville, Illinois area and attended grade school there. He graduated from Gillespie Community High School. He served honorably in the United States Army for two years. He graduated from the Ranken School of Mechanical Trades – Industrial Electricity Night School Program in 1965. He also attended Southern Illinois University for two years. He worked for Davis Supply and Manufacturing Company, Acme Rustproof, Seigal Roberts Plating Company, Krey Packing Company, and Granite City Steel. He began electrical work while with Acme Rustproof and Seigel Roberts. Gilbert was baptized into the Catholic Church and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church of Camdenton. Prior to moving to the lake area, he was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, Illinois. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and boating. His true love of his life was his family and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Gilbert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2007, in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. Visitation will be held Monday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials to St. Anthony Catholic Church, Missouri River Hospice, St. Jude or any other charity may be made through the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri.
