Gladys Emory (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Gladys Elizabeth (Mashburn) Emory of Bolivar, Missouri passed away February 26, 2017 after celebrating her 100th. birthday. She was born November 24, 1916 in Louisburg, Missouri, the daughter of William Thomas Mashburn and Nannie Stella (Rush) Mashburn. Gladys was saved at a young age at Lindley Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and is a member of Life Way Baptist church in Santa Paula, California.
On January 20, 1935, she married Jay L. Emory, and they spent 73 years together in Santa Paula, California. After Jay's death in 2008, Gladys moved to Butterfield Residential Care in Bolivar,
Missouri.
During her time in California, Gladys was a federal employee at the Point Mugu Naval Air Base in Ventura County as an accounting clerk before retiring after 33 years of distinguished service. After
their retirement, Gladys and Jay L. traveled and spent each summer in their vacation home in Bolivar, where Jay L. planted a large garden and Gladys canned the harvest.
Gladys is survived by her sisters-in-law, Betty Emory and WilIetta Reser, a resident of Butterfield Residential Care in Bolivar, and many nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers; Floyd, James Thomas, Wilber, and Wilbie Mashburn and three sisters; Florence (Mashburn) Bewley, Cleo (Mashburn) Payne and Lucille (Mashburn) Hildebrand.
Pallbearers will be Gary L. Mashburn, Jesse R. Emory, Jr., William J. Mashburn, Carl W. Mashburn, Franklin D. Mashburn and Orlin R. Scrivener.
Services for Gladys Emory will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 11 AM at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, MO. Visitation will be held the hour prior. Graveside services will be held following the funeral service at Payne Cemetery.
