Gladys Faye McElroy (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Gladys Faye McElroy, daughter of Leonard and Gladys Hamilton McElroy, was born April 4, 1939, near Falcon, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, March 26, 2012, in Mercy Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-two years, eleven months, and twenty-two days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant sister, Mildred Ruth McElroy.
Faye is survived by a sister, Mary Ruble, of Falcon, Missouri; a niece, Lynna Lawson, and her husband, Randell; a nephew, Lincoln Ruble, and his wife, Lori; two great-nephews, Lyndon Ruble, and his wife, Erica, and Levi Ruble; a number of cousins, including, Pauline and Bernice Amos, Marie Beard, Maxine McElroy, and Harold Hamilton; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Falcon, Missouri community, and graduated from Lebanon High School. She was a hair stylist with Empress Beauty Shop for a time, and then worked at Harwood Clinic in Lebanon. She was employed by Ethan Allen Furniture in Springfield, Missouri, and then was a representative for a commercial furniture company in St. Louis. Later, she owned a furniture brokerage company. After moving to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, she worked as a caregiver to developmentally challenged children through the State of Oklahoma for a number of years. She had recently moved back to Lebanon.
Faye was a longtime member of New Home Freewill Baptist Church, near Falcon, and had attended Unity Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was one-half of a singing duet known as the Gospel-ettes and sang with Janell Walters for a number of years.
In her spare time she greatly enjoyed traveling and had toured much of Europe, Canada, and Mexico. She also enjoyed photography and had taken many beautiful pictures of the places she had visited. She possessed a delightful sense of humor, was generous to an extreme, was a wonderful mentor to many, and was particularly independent. She loved her family dearly and treasured her friends.
Faye was a loving sister, aunt, cousin, and friend and will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
