Glen Breshears' Obituary
Glen Breshears, age 88, of Halfway, Missouri passed away February 24, 2009, at Parkview Healthcare Center in Bolivar, MO. He was born December 10, 1920, in Goodson, Missouri, the first son and fifth child of Jack and Lois Brooks Breshears. Glen grew up near Goodson and graduated from Emma D High School in 1938. He was the fifth generation of Breshears to farm in Polk County. After high school he farmed with his father and brothers. In 1942, during World War II, he entered the Army. He took Jesus as his savior at home shortly before leaving for the service. He became a member of the Goodson Missonary Baptist Church and remained a member until his death. During Glen’s service in the Army he was an auto mechanic working on various types of vehicles. He served 15 months in Europe, mostly in France. This time in the Army was the only time in his life he was away from Polk County for an extended period of time. Glen had just returned from overseas when he met Pat Love on a blind date. She was a student at Southwest Baptist College. They married on October 5, 1946. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006 five months before Pat passed away. Life was never the same without her. They lived most of the first six months of marriage in Montgomery County, then moved back to Polk County and bought a farm, where they lived until 2006. Glen put his life into his farm and his family. He started with a few head of cattle and gradually built up a herd of registered Holstein cattle. Also, he had an artificial insemination service. For many years he got up in the morning milked his cows, made his rounds for his AI service, did the many chores around a farm, milked his cows again and then went to bed. His strong work ethic was instilled in all of his children. Pat and Glen had five children; Patty, Randy, Jane, and twins Terry and Kerry. The saddest day of their marriage came in February of 1954 when they lost Kerry to pneumonia. Glen’s feelings for family and duty also extended to Pat's family. Pat’s sister, Esther, lost her husband in 1961. She and her four children; Vicki, Joe, Jackie and John, came to Polk County to live with Glen and Pat's family. A special bond was forged between the two families with Pat and Glen feeling as if they now had eight children. Jackie, who was 3 years old at the time, could always make Uncle Glen smile. In fact, when something was broken the older children would always say “Jackie did it.” because they knew no one would be in trouble. It was not all work. Together Pat and Glen had sixty-six nieces and nephews. Family gatherings were always large. Glen and his brothers were known for making jokes and laughing. When this large family is together it is a noisy gathering with lots of talking, laughter and food. Glen loved being with his family, watching or playing basketball or most any sport. Preceding him in death were his parents, one of his twin sons; Kerry Glen, three brothers; Nevin Breshears, David Breshears and Darryl Breshears, four sisters; Violet Church, Rose Abel, Pansy Angle and Lily Farmer, and his beloved Pat. Surviving are the four children and their spouses; Patty & Gary Warren of Wheatland, MO, Randy & Janice Breshears of Halfway, MO, Jane Stoner of Irvine, CA, Terry & Tina Breshears of Unionville, TN: nine grandchildren and their spouses; Suzanne & Stan Mayfield of Bolivar, MO, Todd Warren of Bolivar, MO, Lynn & Adam Quennoz of Halfway, MO, Brent Breshears of Osage Beach, MO, Ashley Stoner of Los Angeles, CA, Alison Stoner of Tustin, CA, Jeffrey Stoner of Seattle, WA, Valerie Breshears of St. Louis, MO, and Kerry Breshears of Unionville, TN: four great-granddaughters; Maddison Thrasher, Brooke Mayfield, Miranda Quennoz, and Isabella Mayfield.
