Glen Leroy Davis' Obituary
Glen Leroy Davis, son of Calvin Winfield and Emma Jane (Cook) Davis, was born June 8, 1921, in Seymour, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, August 6, 2007, in Cox Medical Center North, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-six years, one month, and twenty-four days. On December 22, 1946 he was united in marriage to Charlene G. Ragsdale and to this union one daughter and one son were born. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1983. He was later united in marriage to Shirley Lee Carman Carter on April 3, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Davis; a grandson, Chris Davis; a sister, Gladys Lawson; three brothers, Freeman, Edgar and Floyd Davis; and a very special sister-in-law, Rose Davis. Glen is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, of the home; a daughter, Shiela Davis Smith, of Mansfield, Missouri; a grandson, Lance Davis, of Mansfield, Missouri; a brother, Kenneth Davis, of Seymour, Missouri; three step-children, Sandra Cobb, and her husband, Sam, of Rogersville, Missouri, Sherry Bement, and her husband, Brett, of San Angelo, Texas, and Everett Carter, and his wife, Lisa, of Fort Worth, Texas; seven step-grandchildren, Kevin Perry, of San Angelo, Texas, Kristal Hellerud, and her husband, Brett, of Lockhart, Texas, Brittany Bement, of Bridge Port, Texas, Shanna Cobb and Stephanie Brown, both of Rogersville, Missouri, Carrie and Cassie Carter, both of Fort Worth, Texas; five step-great-grandchildren, Jenna and Ethan Perry, Austin Brown, Tori and Hunter Allen Hellerud; a very special friend, Judy Herman, of Seymour, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Seymour and Diggins area, where he spent the majority of his life. He worked as a Maintenance Foreman for the Missouri Department of Transportation for twenty-eight years, before retiring in 1983. In December of 1942 he entered the United States Army and served in World War II with the 6th Infantry Division, 1st Regiment, in the Asiatic Campaign, and the Philippines Liberation, fighting battles in Luzon and New Guinea. He was honorably discharged in the rank of Staff Sergeant in December of 1945. Glen had made his profession of belief in Christ at an early age and followed the Baptist faith. He had served as past President of the Fox Hunters Association and was a member of the VFW Post #4104. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, fox hunting, and loved growing vegetables in his garden. Glen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle and was caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri.
