Glenda Calfas' Obituary
Glenda Faye Calfas, daughter of Clarence Everett and Jennie Florene (Cook) Brumback was born March 28, 1933 near Seymour, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, March 19, 2011 in her home in Seymour, Missouri at the age of seventy-seven years, eleven months and eighteen days.
On December 19, 1952 she was united in marriage to Stanley Calfas and to this union two sons were born. Stanley preceded her in death on July 4, 1962.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Carolyn Capon; two brothers, Junior Cornelison and John P. Brumback; and her longtime companion and best friend, Hersel Johnson.
Glenda is survived by her two sons, Mark Calfas and Monte Calfas and his wife, Jeannie, all of Seymour, Missouri; two granddaughters, Megan Cantrell and her husband, Max, of Springfield, Missouri and Stacey O’Reilly and her husband, Brian, of Kansas City, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, McKyna, Kylee, and Jaxon “J.W.”; six nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She grew up in Seymour and graduated from Seymour High School in the Class of 1950. After she and Stanley were married they moved to Kansas City to live for a few years and she attended college in Lincoln, Nebraska. They moved back to Seymour to live before he passed away in 1962. After his death, she was instrumental in getting Head Start active in Seymour and became its first teacher and worked there until 1971. She also helped Hersel with his building construction business for several years.
Glenda had accepted Christ as her Savior and had attended Cumberland Presbyterian Church and followed the protestant faith throughout her life.
She was a devoted homemaker who took pride in her home and enjoyed being outdoors doing the lawn mowing and caring for her flowers. In her spare time she liked watching movies and being with her family.
Glenda was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and a caring friend and neighbor. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish all the wonderful memories she created for all who knew and loved her. Graveside services are 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in Seymour Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Gary Dedmon officiating under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour. Visitation will be 7-8:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
