Glenn Akers (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Glenn Darrell Akers of Long Lane, Missouri, was born October 4, 1936 in Hayes, Kansas to Carney L. and Florence L. Altman Akers. He passed away in his home, surrounded by family, on Friday, October 11, 2024. He was eighty-eight years and seven days of age.
Glenn was raised in Garnett, Kansas and graduated high school there. While attending school, he met the love of his life, Marie Ruby, and they were married on December 29, 1955. To this union, four children were born, Rhonda, Stanley, Rick and Scott. They celebrated sixty-five years of wonderful memories and happiness before she passed away February 17, 2021.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Carney and Florence Akers; his loving wife, Marie Akers; his sister, Lorena; his brothers, Kenneth and Dale Akers; his son-in-law, Richard Frank and his granddaughter, Lacey.
He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Frank, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; three sons, Stanley Akers, and his wife, Tina, of Long Lane, Missouri, Rick Akers, and his wife, Pam, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Scott Akers, and his wife, Kim, of Sleeper, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Jaime, Shane, Stephanie, Amber, Brandon, and Aaron; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Following graduation, he joined the United States Air Force where he faithfully served for ten years and eight days. He served in Turkey for two of those years, and served other assignments during the Cuban Missile Crisis era. Glenn loved his country and was very proud to have served in the Air Force.
After Glenn was honorably discharged from the Air Force, he started his career with the telephone company, working mostly in Kansas and Missouri. He then accepted a position in Lebanon, Missouri as manager of the LEMO Cable Company. He held this position for twenty years before taking a position with the City of Lebanon Electric Department for ten years. He closed out his career with Tracker Boats.
Glenn loved God with all his heart and was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for many years. Most recently, he had been a member of First Baptist Church in Conway, Missouri and Harmony Baptist Church. Glenn served as Deacon as well as R.A. leader.
In his free time, Glenn enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked being outdoors and loved the beauty the Missouri Ozarks had to offer.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, great-grandfather great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, whose kindness and encouraging, supportive nature was rooted firmly in his Christian faith. His trust in Christ and love for Jesus grew throughout his life and was the distinguishing characteristic recognized by all who knew him.
A memorial has been established to Harmony Cemetery and donations may be left at the funeral home.
