He was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa and then moved to Moville, Iowa as a young man. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army and Army National Guard until his honorable retirement in 1999. He made his home in Oto, Iowa from 1987 until 1996, where he worked as a truck driver. He had made his home in Missouri for the last twenty years, and had worked as a carpenter, truck driver, and at a steel factory in Springfield. He and Shirley had made their home in Phillipsburg for the last twenty years.
He enjoyed being at the lake, liked water skiing, and was a member of the Aqua Ducks. He also enjoyed playing cards and dancing. He liked playing board games but was a sore loser. He was very steadfast in his opinions and convictions. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
