Gloria Smishek's Obituary
Gloria Lou Smishek, daughter of Harvey W. and Marie M. McFadin McQuerter, was born December 13, 1945, in Springfield, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, July 6, 2011, in her home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of sixty-five years, six months, and twenty-three days. On October 12, 1963, she was united in marriage to James A. Smishek, and they shared the last forty-seven years. She was preceded in death by her father; a daughter, Kimberly; and a grandson, Tristan. Gloria is survived by her husband, Jim, of the home; a son, Dr. James Matthew North, of Lewisville, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Jackson, Austin, and Taylor; a great-granddaughter, Kailie; her mother, Marie Williams, of Lebanon, Missouri; two brothers, Douglas McQuerter, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Darwin McQuerter, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a sister, Vivian Holton, of Odessa, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was raised in Lebanon, Missouri and graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1963. After she and James were married, they made their home in Kansas City, Missouri for eleven years, and then lived in Dallas, Texas for thirty years. In 2002, she and James retired and moved back to Lebanon. Throughout her adult years, Gloria was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. Gloria made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas for several years. She loved shopping, and always tried to look her best. She possessed an outgoing personality and never knew a stranger. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Gloria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years.
