Gorman Jones' Obituary
Gorman Sikes Jones son of Clyde Alva and Sarah Isabel Sikes Jones was born August 24, 1925 in Norwood, Missouri. He departed this life August 4, 2012 in OCH Hospital in Springfield, Missouri at the age of eighty-six years, eleven months, and eleven days.
On June 20, 1951 he was united in marriage to Avenail Moles and to this union one son was born.
Gorman was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Neva Fakes, Phylis Odle; and brothers J.D. and Gerald Jones.
He is survived by his wife Avenail, of the home; his son, Douglas Jones and wife Calleen of Mansfield, Missouri; his grandsons, Evan Jones and Colton Jones, both of Mansfield, Missouri; a sister, Delores Smith of Ozark, Missouri; two brothers, Gayland Jones and wife June of Norwood, Missouri, and Jim Jones and wife Betty of Odessa, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Gorman was born and raised in Norwood and was a graduate of Norwood High School in the Class of 1943. He entered into the United States Army in 1951 at White Sands Missile Range in Las Cruses, New Mexico and was honorably discharged in 1953.
Gorman took a civilian job at White Sands after his discharge from the Army and worked as a PX Clerk until moving back to Missouri to work on his life long love, the farm, in 1962. Gorman operated a dairy farm until 1982 and maintained a beef cattle herd until his death.
He made his profession in Christ and attended the Mansfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Gorman served as a member of the Norwood School Board for twelve years. He was an avid quail hunter and bird dog trainer and enjoyed the time spent hunting with his son, grandsons, and countless friends. Gorman attended thousands of baseball and basketball games throughout his life.
He loved the countless hours spent working on his farm and working his cattle.
Gorman was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, and uncle. He was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Mansfield, Missouri. Burial will follow in the Mansfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be form 6-7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
