Gwin Nell Rhodes' Obituary
Gwin Nell Rhodes, daughter of John Ross and Johnnie D. (Snow) Haynes was born November 9, 1933, in Cullman, Alabama. On May 4, 2007, she went to be with the Lord and reunited with her husband, after a long battle with illness at the age of seventy-three years, five months and twenty-three days. On July 9, 1948, Gwin was united in marriage to Manuel “Dusty” Beaford Rhodes and to this union six children were born. Gwin was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, “Dusty” on May 7, 1995; a son, Johnny Michael Rhodes; one grandson, Jeffrey Massoni, Jr.; one sister, Imogene Haynes; and two brothers, Troy and Ernest Haynes. She is survived by five children: Manuel B. “Brent” Rhodes, Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Seymour, Joan Massoni and her husband, Jeff, of Seymour, Ronald Rhodes and his wife Beverly, of Springfield, Daniel Rhodes and his wife, Cindy, and Janice Schroeder and her husband, Dave, all of Seymour. Twelve grandchildren: Lisa Sellers and her husband Terry, Troy Rhodes, Travis Rhodes and his wife Sheila, John Massoni and his wife Laurie, Anthony Massoni and his wife Jennifer, Dustin Rhodes, Amy Rhodes, Diana Rhodes, Nathan Rhodes, Crystal Scranlin and her husband Michael, Dawnya Benson and her husband Larry, and April Schroeder; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dorothy Burgdorf; one brother, James Haynes; as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Gwin, being a highly intelligent individual, graduated high school at the age of 15, and in an effort to help her mother, went to work at a young age as a waitress. After she and Dusty were married, they moved to California where Gwin worked as an accountant for Hi-Q Manufacturing, a business owned by Gwin and Dusty. In 1979, Gwin and Dusty moved to Seymour, and it would be the last step in a long, happy, love-filled journey. She was of the Baptist faith and had a strong faith in God. Gwin was a kind-hearted and giving woman. In her spare time, Gwin enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and making beautiful quilts for her family. She loved getting to see her family members at get-togethers, but what made her the happiest was being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Gwin was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She was a strong willed, lovely lady who befriended everyone she met. She will be sorely missed by one and all. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2007, in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri.
