Gwyndolyn Ellen Hurst (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Gwyndolyn Ellen Hurst, daughter of Ernest and Alma Shockley Hughes, was born November 4, 1928, near Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, October 28, 2016, in her home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, eleven months, and twenty-four days.
On October 26, 1951, she was united in marriage to Irving Willie “Bob” Hurst, and to this union three sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob, on September 13, 1996; and a son, Terry Hurst.
Gwyndolyn is survived by two sons, Hughie Hurst, and Hughes Hurst, both of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of cousins; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She was born and raised on her family’s farm in Laclede County, Missouri, and graduated from Stoutland High School. After she and Bob were married, they made their home on their farm near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their boys. Gwyndolyn was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, and also worked as a secretary in the Laclede County Court House for several years. She then worked at Vernon Abstract Company and Bill Nichols Insurance office for a few years. Later, she owned and operated H H Quilts Store in Lebanon. Through the years, she also helped with the operation of the farm.
She loved horses and show Fox Trotters for a number of years. She also liked cows and enjoyed raising them. She liked doing craft projects of all kinds. She was steadfast in her ideals and convictions. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed having her sons around her.
Gwyndolyn was a loving mother, cousin, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her eighty-seven years.
