Harold Lee Gass (Hartville)'s Obituary
Harold Lee Gass, age 88, of Hartville, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 28, 2018. He was born on July 23, 1929, in Douglas County, Missouri, to Ramie Lee Gass and Eula Hylton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ramie Lee Gass, his mother Eula (Hylton) Gass, stepmother Juel (Roy) Gass, sister Janet (Gass) Willhite, and a grandson Nathan Hubbard.
Harold is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 57 years, Lyllis Gass, a son Gary Lee Gass of Lawrence, Kansas, two daughters, Kathy Bailey of Hartville and Sonja and Tom Hubbard of Hartville, his older brother Hylton and his wife Ruth of McPherson, Kansas, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and caring friends.
Harold and his family left Missouri in 1960 to make their new family home in McPherson, Kansas. When he went to McPherson, he worked for Fred McKenna Chevrolet Oldsmobile as a service manager, and then later worked Hesston Manufacturing Company. Then he began a longtime career with Certainteed Plastics Corporation. While he was working for this corporation he and his family were temporarily moved to Social Circle, Georgia where he worked as a plant manager.
Harold and Lyllis came back to Missouri to help care for aging parents. Soon after, Harold was called back into the ministry and was licensed from Greenwood Congregation in 1984, he was then ordained from the Broadwater Congregation in 1991. During this time, he ministered at Broadwater Church of the Brethren in Essex, Missouri, the Farrenberg Church of the Brethren in Farrenberg, Missouri, and the Greenwood Church of the Brethen in Cabool, Missouri. At those churches he co-pastored with Marie Froman, Timothy Farrenberg, and Jerry Schuester.
Harold enjoyed fishing, gardening, and traveling, especially to Germany while on a business trip. But he didn’t enjoy these hobbies nearly as much as spending time with his loving family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and caring friend. We celebrate his life and will always cherish the many happy memories he helped create.
