Harold Lane Hightower (Hartville)'s Obituary
Harold Lane Hightower, son of Harley Herman and Rushia Isabel Priester Hightower, was born November 29, 1941 in Grovespring, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-one years, eleven months, and one day.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Novella Hightower; a brother, Vance Hightower; and a nephew, Gary Barclay.
Lane is survived by his sister, Charlene Barclay of Lebanon, Missouri; two brothers, Noel Hightower and wife Eileen of Lebanon, Missouri, and Russell Hightower of Kansas City, Missouri; his nieces and nephews, LaVona Chambers and husband David, Larry Hightower and wife Denise Cross, David Barclay and wife Joyce, Joan Holwell, Larry Barclay and wife Diane, Linda Hightower, Ron Hightower and wife Ann, and Cathy Hightower; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
Lane was born in Grovespring, and was a graduate of Lebanon High School. Following graduation, Lane entered into the United States Marine Corps, and proudly served as a Corporal from 1960 to 1963. He then entered the United States Army and served as a Master Sergeant from 1963 until his retirement and honorable discharge in 1981. After his retirement, Lane worked as a consultant for the National Security Agency for nearly five years.
Lane returned to Grovespring in 1986 and worked as a beef farmer. He spent the rest of his life living in the Grovespring area.
Lane was a compassionate and generous person, and was always willing to help those in need. He collected guns, knives, and coins.
Lane was a caring brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends.
