Harry Hatten's Obituary
Harry Scott Hatten, son of Edgar Blaine and May Rosalie Caufman Hatten, was born September 16, 1915, in Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-three years, six months, and one day. On June 16, 1991, he was united in marriage to Ruth Jeanette Kerr Wilkinson, and they shared the last seventeen years. His parents and a brother, Edgar Blaine Hatten, preceded him in death. Harry is survived by his wife, Ruth, of the home; three step-daughters, Jeri Ivey, and her husband, Frank, of DeSoto, Texas, Jane Young, and her husband, Chris, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Kathy McBride, and her husband, Tim, of Lebanon, Missouri; a step-son, Jay Wilkinson, and his wife, Mary Jane, of Farmers Branch, Texas; ten step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Lebanon community where his father was one of the first mayors of the city of Lebanon. After graduating from Lebanon High School, he attended Drury College and Draughon Business School in Springfield and then went to the Rolla School of Mines. Harry also obtained his commercial pilots license before entering the United States Army Air Corps on December 28, 1944. During World War II, he did pilot training of both European and American pilots before being honorably discharged on July 12, 1946. Harry then returned to Lebanon where he worked in the savings and loan business for several years. He also managed pieces of real estate and rental properties for his family. Harry was a longtime active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lebanon. He also belonged to the Laclede County Masonic Lodge # 83 A.F. & A.M. of Lebanon. He was an avid supporter of the Lebanon airport and worked raising funds for maintenance of the airport in its early years. He enjoyed eating at the coffee shop where he could also visit with his friends. In his spare time he liked fishing and being with his family. He was always a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Harry was a loving husband, step-father, step-grandfather, and step-great-grandfather, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will remember him as a devoted family man, a patriotic citizen, and a good friend. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday March 21, 2009 at the Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memroial has been established to the Trinity Episcopal Church.
