Harry J. Schlientz (Seymour)'s Obituary
Harry James Schlientz, 90, of Seymour, MO, passed away December 1, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO, just hours short of his 91st birthday.
Harry was born December 2, 1925, in Montpelier, Idaho, where he spent his early years with his parents, Harry H. Schlientz and Rachel (Budd) Schlientz. The family moved to North Platte, Nebraska, where he eventually met his wife, Ardena Elaine Frazier. They were united in holy matrimony on June 8, 1952. Harry is preceded in death by his parents and wife, and by their infant daughter, Lynn Ann Schlientz. He is survived by his sister, Cordelia Smolik, of Lakewood, CO, his three sons, Harry Joseph (Rocky) Schlientz, Mark William Schlientz, and Ronald James (Buck) Schlientz, as well as his two grandchildren, Mattia Lynne Schlientz and Michael Joseph Schlientz, and other extended family.
Harry started work at a young age, as a bicycle delivery boy for the Western Union telegraph during World War II. His sister remembers that, just after Pearl Harbor, he was so eager to discharge his duties that he delivered news of a soldier’s death in a huge storm. When his bicycle tire was struck by lightning, he carried on! He must have thought he was blessed, for he soon enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a SeaBee (Construction Battalion). Harry made it through seven island campaigns in the Pacific theater, and joined the Army Reserve on his return to North Platte.
Harry held many jobs during his long life. In North Platte, he worked for the Union Pacific railroad. After moving to Seymour, MO, in 1962, he worked for both the USDA and the State of Missouri, retiring from the state. Harry started both the 4-H club in Seymour, and the VFW chapter. He took great pride in breeding Arabian horses, Doberman Pinschers and Beefmaster cattle. Anyone who has visited his Circle Y Ranch will remember his love of animals and nature. Harry was a strong man, who lived a life full of adventure. He had a story for every occasion, and everyone who met him has a story about him. He is greatly loved and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Services are under the care and direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home In Seymour.
