Harvey Whipple (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Harvey L. Whipple, son of Frank and Evey Bailey Whipple, was born October 19, 1941, near Plad, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the family farm, near Grovespring, Missouri, at the age of seventy years, five months, and nineteen days.
On July 10, 1965, he was united in marriage to Bettie Ann Long and they shared the last forty-six years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Claude, Clifford, Fred, Lavern, Dwight, and Jessie “Jake”; and five sisters, Marie, Irene, Myrtle, Mary, and Edith.
Harvey is survived by his loving wife, Bettie, of the home; two brothers, Leonard Whipple, and his wife, Geraldine, of Louisburg, Missouri, and Henry Whipple, and his wife, George Ann, of Kansas City, Missouri; a sister, Sharon “Kottie K.” Beaty, of Raytown, Missouri; a number of special nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Owen and Beulah Long, Don and Cathern Long, all of Hartville, Missouri, and Ronald and Connie Long, of the State of California; his step-mother-in-law, Wilma Long, of Hartville, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was born and raised in the Plad community, and graduated from Windyville High School. After he and Bettie were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area for the last thirty-two years. He owned and operated Whipple Lime and Fertilizer in Lebanon for a number of years, and then retired from the City of Lebanon.
Harvey had professed his faith in Christ and was a member of Plad Missionary Baptist Church.
He was a longtime active member of the Lebanon Elks Lodge # 2557. He greatly enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were deer hunting, horseback riding, and going on trail rides. He possessed a colorful, bigger than life personality and enjoyed playing practical jokes and telling stories. He had a very generous heart and a great amount of confidence in everything he did. He also liked spending time with his family and friends.
Harvey was a loving husband, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and all that he accomplished and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them throughout the years.
