Hazel Goodrich's Obituary
Wilma Hazel Goodrich, daughter of James William and Addie Burtin Smith, was born December 18, 1921, near Long Lane, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, February 6, 2010, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, one month, and eighteen days. On July 17, 1953, she was united in marriage to Max Edward Goodrich, who preceded her in death on March 7, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Carol Goodrich; and three sisters, Jewel Scurlock, Loraine Wilson, and Ressie Richardson. Hazel is survived by four grandchildren, Cindy Goodrich, of Denver, Colorado, Dean Goodrich, of Quincy, Illinois, Jacque Olson, of Denver, Colorado, and Jeff Goodrich, and his wife, Renee, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two great-grandchildren, Frances and Joshua; a special nephew, James Scurlock, and several other nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was raised in the Long Lane community, and graduated from Windyville High School. She then earned her cosmetology license from River’s Beauty School in 1941, and began working as a beautician. She met Max in Lebanon while he was serving in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. After they were married, they traveled to various places where he was stationed in several overseas locations, including England and Germany. In 1964, Max retired from the military, and they returned to Lebanon and made their home. Throughout the years, Hazel was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. Hazel made her profession of faith in Christ as a youth, and was a member of Cedar Ridge Church. Later, she transferred her membership to First Baptist Church where she was very active in many areas of church work. She had been a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was honored by the U.S. military for her hospitality to new troop’s families. She enjoyed traveling and was very close to her family, having taken care of her sister-in-law during her extended illness. She had a wonderful memory, a delightful sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest. Hazel was a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday February 9, 2010 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon.Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation is Monday evening 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Return to top
