Hazel Rhoads' Obituary
Hazel Delores Rhoads, daughter of Charles and Alma Griffin O’Quinn, was born June 29, 1930, near Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, January 20, 2008, in her daughter’s home, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, six months, and twenty-one days. On December 24, 1946, she was united in marriage to Dock Howard Rhoads, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dock, on December 14, 1997; an infant son, David Howard Rhoads; a grandson, Kyle Wayne Henson; and five brothers and sisters. Hazel is survived by a daughter, Brenda Henson, and her husband, Gary, of Joplin, Missouri; a son, Bruce Rhoads, of Lebanon, Missouri; four grandchildren, Reggie and Shane Ellis, both of Joplin, Missouri, and Megan Rhoads and Dusty Rhoads, and his wife, Amanda, all of Lebanon, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Tessa and Josh Jones, and Caleb and Blake Rhoads; a number of nieces and nephews; a special friend, Norb Zimmer, of Joplin, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Orla community, in Laclede County, Missouri. After she and Dock were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area, and lovingly raised their children. Besides being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Hazel also worked as a seamstress for the H. D. Lee Company, and later at Appleby Boat Company. The last several years she had made her home in Joplin to be near her daughter and her family. Hazel attended the First Assembly of God Church in Lebanon, and after moving to Joplin, attended the Calvary Nazarene Church. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning, going to yard sales, and trout fishing. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed all of her grandchildren. Hazel was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and all that she accomplished and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008, in the Lebanon Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
