Helen Adkins (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Helen Jewel Adkins, daughter of Archie Clayton and Lula Lautetta Allen Rook, was born March 10, 1929, in Brownfield, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, October 5, 2020, in Ashland, Ohio, at the age of ninety-one years, six months, and twenty-six days.
On August 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to Dr. Lewis Adkins, and to this union two sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Lewis, on July 12, 1994; a son, Jeff Adkins; and two grandchildren, Paige and Sean.
Helen is survived by a son, Ed Adkins, and his wife, Debra, of Ashland, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Adkins, of Lebanon, Missouri; six grandchildren, Shannon, Brooke, Seth, Bethany, Brian, and Cassandra; a number of great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in the Lebanon, Missouri area and graduated from Lebanon High School. She was working at the Lebanon bus station when she met her husband, and once they were married, they made their home in Columbia, St. Louis, and Independence, Missouri until 1953. They then moved to Charleston, Illinois, where they made their home for over thirty years. Helen was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family and was a loving mother to their children. After Lewis retired, they made their home back in the Lebanon area.
Helen made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was active in the First Baptist Church in Charleston, Illinois for many years. After returning to Lebanon she was active in the First Baptist Church of Lebanon. She was particularly supportive of missions and especially New Tribe Missions.
She enjoyed gardening in her spare time and loved to travel. She centered her life around her family and her faith, and especially enjoyed having time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and was a caring friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
