Helen L Askew (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Helen Louise Askew, daughter of Hershal and Elda Montgomery Cossey, was born June 2, 1923, near Phillipsburg, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in Life Care Center, in Waynesville, Missouri, at the age of eighty-nine years, and ten months.
On January 12, 1946, she was united in marriage to Norman Orin Askew, and to this union one daughter was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Norman, on August 30, 1995.
Helen is survived by a daughter, Janet O’Connell, and her husband, Richard, of Crocker, Missouri; four grandchildren, Timothy O’Connell, and his wife, Kristin, Sarah O’Connell, Rachel O’Connell, and Hannah Garrison, and her husband, James, all of Springfield, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Claire Williams, Gage Garrison, and Kendall O’Connell; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in the Phillipsburg, Missouri community, and graduated from Phillipsburg High School. After she and Norman were married, they made their home on their farm near Phillipsburg, Missouri, and lovingly raised their daughter. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Helen also worked at Commerce Bank in Lebanon for a number of years. In 1996, Helen moved to Crocker, Missouri, to be closer to her daughter and her family.
Helen had professed her faith in Christ and was a longtime active member of Phillipsburg Christian Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed working on the farm and playing the piano. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making special recipes for her family and friends. She had a delightful sense of humor and liked playing practical jokes on people. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years.
