Helen Elgie's Obituary
Helen “Ann” L. Elgie, daughter of Anton and Mary List, was born July 24, 1919, in Owosso, Michigan. She departed this life Tuesday, September 16, 2008, in Glenwood Healthcare, in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of eighty-nine years, one month, and twenty-two days. On June 25, 1942 she was united in marriage to Harry Lyle Elgie and to this union two sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, on April 5, 1978; her parents; four brothers, Jerry, Joe, Tony and John List; and two sisters, Marie Burnham and Mildred Zelinka.
Ann is survived by her two sons, Bill Elgie, and his wife, Carol, of Fordland, Missouri, and Bob Elgie and his wife, Jeanne, of Bruner, Missouri; five grandchildren, Angela Amtower, of Fordland, Missouri, Robert Elgie, Jr., and his wife, Lori, of Nashville, Tennessee, Dawn Alexander-Felton, and her husband, Thomas, of Fordland, Missouri, Cheryl Curtis, of Ava, Missouri, and Linda Barnes, of Seymour, Missouri; twenty-one great-grandchildren, Brittany, Paul, Wade, Elizabeth, Ariel, Tyler, Makenna, Tori, Olivia, Mason, Emily, Tyler, Natalie, Tiffany, Lacey, Tandra, Cody, Bethany, Tia, Jens, and Makayla; one great-great-granddaughter, Kaia; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
She was born and raised in Michigan and in 1958 moved to Seymour, Missouri. Following her husband’s death she moved back to Michigan for a short time and then returned to Missouri, where she lived in Fordland to help raise her great-grandchildren. Besides being a devoted homemaker she also worked at Brown Shoe Factory in Seymour for several years and volunteered at the 25¢ Store in Fordland.
Ann had made her profession of belief in Christ and was of the Protestant faith.
She loved cooking meals for her family, playing cards and bingo, gardening, and growing African Violets. She also loved doing crafts, going to garage sales, and in her younger years she had a passion for dancing.
Ann was a kind and caring person with a big heart. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008 in Seymour Masonic Cemetery, with Reverend Roy Cantrell officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Wedenesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospices in care of the funeral home.
