Helen Hightower (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Helen Kathleen Hightower, daughter of Orville and Amy Hamilton Jones, was born June 29, 1930, near Grovespring, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, October 15, 2010, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty years, three months, and sixteen days.
On October 19, 1947, she was united in marriage to Bobby Leon Hightower, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobby, in 2004; an infant son, Larry Hightower; a brother, Robert Jones; and a sister, Joyce Hicks.
“Jo”, as she was often called by her family and friends, is survived by a daughter, Diana Davis, and her husband, Everett, of Grovespring, Missouri; a granddaughter, Bobbi Davis, of Grovespring, Missouri; a great-grandson, Joshua Metro, of Grovespring, Missouri; a brother, Rolland Jones, and his wife, Beverly, of Marshfield, Missouri; two sisters, Mary Todd, and her husband, Earl, of Grovespring, Missouri, and Phyllis Hightower, of Springfield, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Grovespring community. After she and Bobby were married, they made their home on their farm, near Grovespring, and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her family, Helen also worked at the Rice Stix Factory and later the H. D. Lee Company for a number of years.
Helen professed her faith in Christ early in her life and was a longtime active member of Mount Zion (Cuba) Freewill Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed doing upholstery work and particularly liked restoring antique furniture. She also enjoyed being outdoors, watching television, and listening to gospel music. Her family was very important to her and her great-grandson, Joshua, was the “apple of her eye”.
Helen was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that she will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
