On December 31, 1951, she was united in marriage to Elmer A. Pergande, and to this union three daughters were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; and a sister, Marian Sayers.
Helen is survived by her loving husband of sixty-six years, Elmer, of the home; two daughters, Sheryl Pergande, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Teresa Pergande, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; two grandchildren, Christine and Gary; four great-grandchildren, Felicia, Evan, Anthony and August; a brother Ben Trexel, of Denver, Colorado; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in Iowa, where her parents owned an ice plant. As a young girl she made deliveries for her families’ business. After graduating from high school, she married Elmer and they made their home in various locations while he served in the military. The family lived in Texas, Minnesota, California, France, and Florida, and Helen and the girls stayed stateside while Elmer served in the Vietnam War. Once Elmer retired, the family moved to Hartville, Missouri, before making their home in Lebanon where they lived the last thirty years. In addition to being a devoted homemaker and mother, Helen also worked for the Lebanon R-III Schools in the maintenance department, as a cook and also as a bus driver for several years.
She was very artistically talented and enjoyed drawing and sketching in her spare time. She also liked caring for her home. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed caring for her daughters and grandchildren.
Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
