Henry "Chip" Powell (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Henry “Chip” Powell was born August 8, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri to Harry and Virginia McGaughey Powell. He passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Select Specialty Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. He was sixty-six years, eleven months and two days of age.
Chip grew up in St. Louis and was a 1976 graduate of St. Louis Vianny High School. His football talents took him to the University of Missouri where he lettered as a defensive back and later a full-time defensive coach on the staff of Warren Powers for the 1983-84 football season.
On May 17, 2003, he was united in marriage to his true love and best friend, Cynthia Kay Retallick.
He sold insurance for Reserve Life for many years. He later was employed at Wal-Mart for fifteen years before leaving the company in 2021 due to illness.
Chip is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Virginia Powell; his mother and father-in-law, Sam and Alice Retallick; his brothers, John Powell and Michael Powell; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Retallick.
He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-two years, Cindy (Retallick) Powell; his daughter, Amanda Antonacci and her husband Ty of Lebanon, Missouri and Blair Powell of Quincy, Illinois; two grandchildren, Alexa Wright and Jaxxon Antonacci, both of Lebanon, Missouri; his brother, Jerry Powell and his wife Denise; two sisters, Carolynn Wolz and Teresa Wolz, both of St. Louis, Missouri; his brother-in-law, Dan Retallick and his wife Sue of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; his sisters-in-law, Peggy Markow and her husband Dave of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Marianne Retallick of Garfield, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Chip was a kind-hearted, loving person, who never met a stranger. He loved sports of all kinds, but football was in his soul. He loved to tease, but you always knew he was teasing, he couldn’t hide his smirk.
Throughout his time at Mizzou, he was close to his teammates and coaches and was known as a loyal Tiger that always put his team first.
Most of all, Chip loved his family. They meant so much to him. Chip built a legacy of love and loyalty. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed. His wishes were to be a tissue donor and those wishes were carried out. The family would like to give a special thanks to Greg Emmeneger for helping to write this life story.
Memorial contributions can be made in Chip's honor to the charity of the donor's choice.
