Herman Eagleston (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Herman L. Eagleston, son of Marvin O. and Retha Ovie Eagleston was born on February 7, 1923 in a one room log cabin located near Ava, Missouri. Herman was often heard stating “He was the last famous man to be born in a log cabin!” Herman departed this life with a large smile on May 10, 2015 at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 3 days at home with family by his side. His departure was located 75 feet from the place of his birth in the log cabin.
Herman will be greatly missed by his wife Bettie Mae (Clouse) Eagleston, his son Don Eagleston, his daughter-in-law Kayleen Eagleston, his grandson Jason Eagleston and wife Autumn, his granddaughters Karen Dodson & husband Justin and Nickole Donnelly as well as seven great grandchildren. Herman’s departure from this life was preceded by his parents, brother, Sherman and son, Robert Lee Eagleston.
He was very proud of the ‘Hillbilly Heritage’ which contributed toward selecting wholesale grocery delivery, farming, carpentry and rural mail carrier occupations as his preferred choices. Successful graduation was accomplished from Casto School (a one room rural school house) in 1936 and Ava Missouri High School in 1941.
Herman married the love of his life on June 28, 1945 and moved to the farm in Wright County Missouri where they raised their two sons and the Jersey cattle. He was sincere about his love and loyalty to Jesus. Carrying out his patriarchal duties in the home was his highest priority. Keeping the Lord’s Day of worship along with continually studying the Bible and sharing the “Word of God” with the family was his way of life. He was always ready to invest in the Lord’s work.
Being an only child, he loved being married into an extended family. During family gatherings, Herman was often found outside playing with the children. Children would be found competing to become the next one who would be placed upon the top of a vehicle and given the pleasure of jumping into his outstretched arms! He was always eager to participate in any game.
