Herman Russel Payne (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Herman Russel Payne, age 83 of Polk, MO passed away at 4:25 PM Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility in Bolivar.
He was born on February 4, 1927 in Polk, MO the son of Andrew Joseph Payne and Mildred Mary (Borgstadt) Payne.
He was saved and baptized at the age of twelve at a small Baptist church in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and later united with Mt. View Missionary Baptist Church in Polk. At the time of his death, he was a member of Sentinel Missionary Baptist Church of Polk which he faithfully attended throughout his adult life.
He was united in marriage to Gwinneth Ervaline Reynolds on October 9, 1946, and to this union were born three children: Russel Payne of Bolivar, Dixie Foster of Bolivar, and Leslie Payne of Polk.
His parents and two sisters, Fern McCluskey and Martha Elder preceded him in death.
Herman was a lifelong farmer and construction worker, laboring many long hours to support his family. He was well-known for his honesty, sense of humor, devotion to family, and most of all for his love of the Lord’s cause. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Gwinneth E. Payne of the couples home at Polk, Russel L. Payne and wife Janice of Bolivar, MO., Dixie Foster and husband Michael of Bolivar, MO., Leslie Payne and wife Susan of Polk, MO. One sister Ruth Jones of Bolivar, MO; Four step-sisters, Roa Wainscott, Eva Voris, Ava Grannemann all of Bolivar, MO and Iva Rust of Houston, MO. Also his seven Grandchildren, Amy Bruce, Angela Legan, Alicia Roberts, Bryant Foster, Suzanne Evans, Derek Payne and Ashley Payne, ten Great Grandchildren, Jessica, Claire, Zachary, Mary, Dillon, Drew, Anna, Audrey, Caleb, and Rachel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Herman was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend that will be greatly missed by all.
A Visitation will be held on Friday evening, October 8, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Butler Chapel
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 10:00 AM in the Butler Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mike Bruce and Brother Michael Foster officiating. Music will be provided by the Sentinel Missionary Baptist Church Choir with Lucinda Crouch as the Pianist. Musical Selections will be “I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You”, “I Need No Mansion Here” the congregation singing “Amazing Grace”.
Burial will be in the Sentinel Cemetery north of Polk, MO under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar. Military Honors will be conducted by the AMVETS Post 114, Flemington, MO and The U. S. Navy Honors Team. Casketbearers will be Derek Payne, Bryant Foster, Lukas Roberts, Shawn Evans, Mark Legan and Brandon Moore. Honorary Casketbearers will be Dillon Legan, Drew Legan, Zachary Bruce and Caleb Evans.
