Hobart Davis' Obituary
Hobart Ray Davis, son of Ellis and Sadie Ann (Fleetwood) Davis, was born September 20, 1920 in Seymour, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, July 17, 2009 in St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, nine months, and twenty-seven days. On February 4, 1942 he was united in marriage to Hazel Gertrude Denney, and together they spent almost fifty-three years before Hazel’s passing on August 26, 1995. Also preceding him in death were his parents; and infant sister, Felsia Davis; and three brothers, Norman, Bud, and Lester Davis. Ray is survived by his daughter, Wanda Kanel and her husband Marshall, of Seymour, Missouri; three grandchildren, Erick Kanel and his wife, Melissia, of Seymour, Missouri, Martie Young and her husband, Roland, of Springfield, Missouri, and Jeremy Kanel and his wife, Darlene, of Marshfield, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Samantha, and Devon; a number of nieces; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was a lifelong resident of Seymour, Missouri and had worked for the M.F. A. Packing Plant in Springfield until it closed, he then began working at Hutchens Steel Processor’s in Seymour as a security guard and retired from there June 23, 1986. Ray served his country faithfully with the United States Army during World War II. He also was a member of the Webster County Veteran’s Honors Team for several years. Ray had accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and had followed the Baptist faith throughout his life. In his spare time he took special pride in the care of his lawn and home. He loved his family very much, and was especially fond of his little dog “Rusty.” Ray was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will cherish the special memories he made for his family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2009 in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery, with Reverend Roy Cantrell officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by the Webster County Veteran's Memorial Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.
