Hollis Wright's Obituary
Hollis Wright, daughter of James Arthur and Sarah Della Hicks Brown, was born May 25, 1916, on the family farm near Abo, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, January 14, 2006, in Northridge Place, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-nine years, seven months, and nineteen days. On January 19, 1938, she was united in marriage to Lowell Edward Wright and to this union one daughter was born. She and Lowell celebrated their fifty-fifth anniversary shortly before Lowell’s passing on April 9, 1993. She also was preceded in death by her parents, and a granddaughter, Mitzi Herman, on April 10, 2001. Hollis is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Zandra and Robert Miller, of Landisville, Pennsylvania; two grandsons, Greg Miller, of Memphis, Tennessee, and Chris Miller, of Belton, Missouri; two great-grandsons, Scott and Justin, of the State of Pennsylvania; a sister, Edith Brown, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was raised on her parents’ farm, near Lebanon, Missouri, and attended the Rippy School. She then graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1935. After she and Lowell were married, they made their home in Kansas City, and Raytown, Missouri, while Lowell was employed by Kansas City Power and Light Company. Throughout the years, Hollis was a devoted homemaker and a loving mother to her family, and also did babysitting from time to time. Soon after Lowell retired in 1979, they moved back to Lebanon and made their home. Hollis made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a member of Southern Heights Christian Church in Lebanon. In addition to maintaining their family home, Hollis also cared for their home on the Lake of the Ozarks where they spent most of their leisure time for thirty-five years. She enjoyed gardening, canning her homegrown vegetables, preparing foods for the freezer, doing embroidery work, reading, playing bingo, and attending Ladies Clubs and church. She and Lowell also liked to travel and had visited many of the fifty United States. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Hollis was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
