Homer Jones' Obituary
Homer Ray Jones, son of Ted and Mable Heater Jones, was born October 14, 1929, in Springfield, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, September 2, 2007, in Lake Regional Hospital, in Osage Beach Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, ten months, and eighteen days. On November 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Glennis Arlene Tyre, and to this union four sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, an infant, Robert Lee Jones, Theodore Jones, and two other infants; and a sister, Sharon Starnes. Homer is survived by his loving wife of almost fifty-seven years, Arlene, of the home; four sons, Doyle Jones, Harlan Jones, and his wife, Susan, Dennis Jones, and Randall Jones, and his wife, Kelli, all of Lebanon, Missouri; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Ellis Jones, and his wife, Waylene, of Eldridge, Missouri; four sisters, Doris Shaffer, and her husband, John, of the State of Michigan, Ann Durant, and her husband, Jim, of Omaha, Nebraska, Leyetta McCoy, and her husband, Bill, of Springfield, Missouri, and Edna Long, and her husband, Kenneth, of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. He was born and raised in the Lebanon, Missouri area and lived all of his life in Laclede County. Through the years, he worked in the agricultural industry and specialized in doing custom farming. He and Arlene made their home on their farm, near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their sons. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator in the building construction business for several years. Homer had made his profession of faith in Christ and was an active member of New Home Freewill Baptist Church, near Falcon, where he served as a deacon. He raised fox trotting horses and was a member of the Missouri Fox Trotting Association, and the Lebanon Saddle Club. He greatly enjoyed going on trail rides and showing his horses. He was a founding member of the Laclede County Mounted Patrol, and had served on the New Home Cemetery Board for several years. He was an active member of the Republican Party and was also interested in county government. For fun and relaxation, he liked to go to tractor pulls and compete with his garden tractor. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Homer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in New Home Cemetery, near Falcon. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to the New Home Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund may be made through the funeral home.
