Homer Paul Smith (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Homer Paul Smith, son of Homer P. and Lula Rusher Smith, was born April 8, 1940, in Phillipsburg, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, October 19, 2022, in Lake Regional Hospital, in Osage Beach, Missouri, at the age of eighty-two years, six months, and eleven days.
On September 22, 1961, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Gibson and to this union one daughter and three sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Virginia Dean, and Lela Donigan.
Homer is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Elizabeth, of the home in Phillipsburg, Missouri; a daughter, Connie Burns, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; three sons, Donnie Smith, and his wife, Beth, Paul Smith, and Robert Smith, and his wife, Cathy, all of Phillipsburg, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Kenny, Jessica, Sarah, Lynsey, Allison, Greyson, Logan, Leah, and Luke; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Phillipsburg community, and graduated from Phillipsburg-Conway High School in the Class of 1958. He entered the military as a young man and served his country faithfully in the United States Navy for four years, and then in the United States Army for sixteen years before retiring. During his years of service he was stationed in Korea and Vietnam and served in several locations stateside. He was trained in aircraft repair and after retiring worked as an aircraft mechanic for various companies. The family eventually returned to his hometown of Phillipsburg and made their home.
Homer had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Phillipsburg Christian Church.
He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #1014 and the American Legion Post #43, and the NRA. He enjoyed fishing and sports of all kinds. His life rotated around his family and he was very involved in his children’s activities. He had a “Master Sergeant” personality, and you never had to wonder where he stood on any important matters.
Homer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and his service to our country and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
