Homer Vess (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Homer B. Vess was born March 13, 1931, to Melvin Vess and Mary Williams Vess in Blytheville, Arkansas. He passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024 in his home in Lebanon, Missouri.
Homer was born and raised in Arkansas. He then moved to Tennessee before relocating to Kansas City, Kansas where he met his wife, Vona Charlene Hicks. They were married on September 2, 1961. They resided in the Kansas City area for thirty years where Homer was a welder with the Hobart Corporation for twenty-seven years.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents; his only son, Jerry Alan Vess in 2021; three brothers, Andrew, Wilburn and Henry Vess; two sisters, Martha Yarbrough and Lucille Pilgram.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Vona; three granddaughters, Jessica Cruse of Kansas City, Kansas, Candace Wilson and Rachel Vess, both of Lebanon, Missouri; nine great-grandchildren, Eli, Natalie, Skylee, John, Nathan, Haily, Jason, Braylee and Addyson; one great-great-grandson, John, Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Vess; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Powell; and several nieces and nephews.
Homer and Vona retired to Lebanon where Homer enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was known to raise beautiful flowers in his yard and loved being outside.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and liked giving people a hard time. He sure liked to tease and you just never knew what antics Homer was going to come up with. He was a hard worker and always supportive of his family and loved ones and was present in their lives in a meaningful way.
Above all, he loved his family. It was a great loss when their son passed away in 2021, but he was blessed with his wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his precious great-great-grandson. They were so special to him and he cherished the time and memories he was able to create with them.
