Howard Everett Carriger (Hartville)'s Obituary
Howard Everett Carriger, son of Floyd Wilbert and Joella Evans Carriger, was born January 9, 1951 near Mansfield, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, March 2, 2013 on his farm, near Grovespring, at the age of sixty-two years, one month, and twenty-one days.
On November 13, 1969, Howard was united in marriage to Tamara Gale O’Dell and to this union three children were born.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers-in-law, Roger O’Dell, and Bob Wynn.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy, of the home; children, Melissa Wollard and husband Keith of Hartville, Missouri; Denette Lowery and husband Tim of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Chasity Cromer and husband Chad of Lebanon, Missouri; grandchildren, Alex Wollard, Paxton Lowery, and Cayda Cromer; his siblings, Robert Carriger and wife Priscilla of Grovespring, Missouri, Dorothy Robertson and husband Russell of Hartville, Missouri, Wilma Squires and husband J.O. of Grand Junction, Colorado, Earl Carriger and wife Janet of Grovespring, Missouri, and Lois Kelley of West Plains, Missouri; a number of very special nieces and nephews; close friend, Russell Kelley of Hartville, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Howard was a lifelong resident of the Hartville and Grovespring area and was a graduate of Hartville High School in the Class of 1969. His great-grandfather, Dr. John A. Campbell, built his home and practice in Hartville in the late 1890’s. That building still stands today and continues to serve the community as the Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Howard, along with his brother Earl, owned and operated a dairy farm in Grovespring for many years.
He had accepted Christ as his Savior on July 9, 1972, and was a member of the Elk Creek Baptist Church.
Howard took pride in the Grovespring community and was very involved in many aspects. He served the Grovespring Fire Department as past President, first responder, and volunteer firefighter. He also served on the board of directors for the Wright County Public Water District in Grovespring.
Howard was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Hartville Lady Eagles softball. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and had played on the Arnall Lumber men’s softball team. Howard’s grandchildren were the light of his life. He cherished the time spent with them and always made it a point to attend as many of their sporting events as possible.
Howard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends.
